Smectic compounds

The occurrence of smectic phases as being used in ferroelectric and antiferroelectric S_C devices (FLC and AFLC) is bound up to certain lateral polar side groups. Compounds of tailor-made molecules can be synthesised on request after disclosure of the required special physical properties.
